What are the benefits of the Mosquito Mist Away System™?  IS OUTDOOR MISTING EFFECTIVE?

The most convincing evidence that the mosquito misting technology really works is the explosive growth in the market. Misting technology has been used in barns to protect expensive racehorses from biting flies for about 30 years. In 1999, an entrepreneur in Houston decided to apply the technology to mosquito control. He built a primitive system that worked so well he began to build them to sell.  There was no budget for advertising or promotion, so local awareness was built by word-of-mouth. Typically, it was owners raving about their mosquito systems at cocktail parties and cookouts, or their guests noticing that even though they're standing outside at dusk, they're not being devoured by mosquitoes. Our estimate is that there are 15,000 - 20,000 working systems in the country. You wouldn't see that kind of growth if outdoor misting weren't truly effective.

Our customers agree that the MistAway™ System effectively eliminates mosquitos and other biting insects from thier yards. It is fully automated and maintenance free - leaving them time to enjoy thier yards, year-round.

What types of Mosquito MistAway™ Systems are available?
Gen II is a tankless mosquito misting system that offers several advantages over the traditional 55 gallon drum containers

The Gen III is an attractive, state of the art, tankless outdoor misting system. This misting system is consumer-friendly and offers more flexibility and control over the products that are misted. It is small and lightweight and can easily be placed anywhere in your yard that is convenient to a hose bib and electrical outlet.

Existing customers can upgrade their current systems by replacing it with the Gen III and keep their existing nozzle circuit.

The Gen 1.3 is a drum-based system that's used for both residential and commercial areas that require a larger amount of coverage.  The resevoir of the Gen 1.3 comes in several sizes to meet the needs of each application.

This series can utilize a 55, 125, or 225-gallon reservoir. The larger resevoirs are recommended for systems with more than 100 nozzles.

What kind of nozzles and tubing does each system require? Are they durable?

Please see our systems page for explanation of the Mosquito MistAway™ features and equipment.

Do I have to turn on the Mosquito MistAway™ System each time I want to use it?

Absolutely not. Our systems feature a fully automated timer that combines reliability with ease of use. You simply set the timer, and at the designated time, a light mist is released into the air dramatically reducing bothersome mosquitos and other biting insects.

How frequently will I need to refill my system?

With the new "snap-in-snap-out" feature, instead of spending 15 minutes filling a 55-gallon drum from a hose, it takes about 5 seconds to snap out an empty cartridge of concentrate and snap in a full one.

Depending on the season, location and overall mosquito problem, a 55-gallon reservoir will need to be refilled every 3-6 months. This is determined by the frequency and duration of each spraying cycle.

What are the installation and operation parts?

Compared to conventional pest control and insecticide methods, Southern Mosquito Systems provides far more effective results for your investment. The installation and maintenance costs are based on the specific size and design of your home and yard, and usually comparable to the cost of an irrigation system.

What is Pyrethrum?

Please see our Pyrethrum page for an explanation of how the Pyrethrum compound makes a great insecticide..

Is the system safe for my family and pets?

The Mosquito MistAway™ System uses Pyrethrin, a plant oil that occurs in the pyrethrum daisy, Tanacetum cinerariaefolium, a member of the chrysanthemum family. It is important to note that any insecticide can be dangerous to humans and pets if mishandled, and if directions aren't followed closely.

Does the system help control more than just Mosquitos?

Yes, the Mosquito MistAway™ System dramatically reduces pests in your yard. The HydroPy-300, the Pyrethin insecticide, aids in the control of over 200 different pests.

How often will the system require maintenance?

The intake filter that hangs inside the drum should be rinsed each time you refill the drum. Washing the intake filter prevents clogging of the nozzle tips and filters.

The tank should be washed out at least once a year to remove any natural bacterial growth or residue accumulation. There are no preservatives or chlorines in the mixture because these chemicals would interfere with the natural ingredients in the insecticide.

Can the Resevoir be located outside in the elements?

Yes. The system includes a weather resistant cover so the elements will not generally interfere with the operation. If you are concerned about your specific situation, please contact us.

Is the Mosquito MistAway™ System easy to operate?

Yes, all you do is set the timer, and at the designated time, a light mist is released into the air eliminating bothersome mosquitos and biting insects.

Will Pyrethrum kill butterflies, dragonflies and pollinating bees?

We set up the system to operate during the times when mosquitos are most active, at dawn and dusk. During the day, when butterflies, dragonflies and bees are most active, they won't be hit with the full dose of insecticide, but it does have the same overall effect on them as it does on mosquitoes.
